Special Guest Speaker Vic Armstrong
Vic Armstrong has had an amazing 50+ year career in the film industry working closely with the likes of Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, the James Bond producers and Harrison Ford. Starting off as a stuntman on the incredible volcano set of You Only Live Twice at Pinewood Studios he went on to double for James Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (George Lazenby), Live and Let Die (Roger Moore) and Never Say Never Again (Sean Connery), and for Christopher Reeve in Superman I & II.
Throughout the 80s and early 90s Vic doubled for Harrison Ford in nearly a dozen movies, most famously in the Indiana Jones trilogy, Blade Runner and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. As his career progressed Vic often took on the dual role of stunt performer and coordinator – he performed these roles on the last of his two Indiana Jones movies, in fact he did so much that Harrison Ford once joked to him, “If you learn to talk I’m in deep trouble”.
Over the years he has worked closely with many action legends including Sylvester Stallone on Rambo III, Arnold Schwarzenegger on Total Recall and Terminator 2, and Tom Cruise (who must have been an interesting challenge for a stunt coordinator) on War of the Worlds and Mission: Impossible III.
From stunt coordinator he progressed to second unit director on Pierce Brosnan’s last three James Bond films (Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough & Die Another Day) where he was responsible for many of the hugely complicated action scenes in the movies. Other major productions that Vic has lent his talents to over the years include The Amazing Spider-Man, An American Werewolf in London, Charlie’s Angels, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Eddie the Eagle, Gangs of New York, The Omen and Thor.
In 2001 he received an Academy Award for his contribution to the movie stunt industry and today he is without a doubt the most famous stuntman in the world.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to listen to one of the legends of the British film industry as he tells amazing stories from his many decades of action movie making with some of the biggest stars in the business.
